This year, the month of October is the most awaited among the people in the country because it is scheduled to be the cremation of the late King who passed away last year.
The most popular landmarks of Bangkok, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Grand Palace, are not accessible to tourist during the entire month of October because of the Royal Cremation. According to Andrew J. Wood, a local resident and expert in the city, there are other temples that can be visited instead of these two.
Even in normal circumstances, October is considered to be the start of the peak season for Thailand as tourists all over the country make sure to drop by the city center. For this year, however, the entire country is paying their respect to His Majesty King Bhumiphol. The royal funeral will start on October 24 until 29 but the cremation is scheduled on October 26.
The occasion is sad for the whole Kingdom but it is very essential to their culture as well. With regards to this, they are predicting that around 250,000 visitors will be attending the cremation rites. With this, the Grand Palace will not be accessible from October 1 until 29.
