Dubai Develops Comprehensive, Updated And Unified Base Map

Most large-scale illustrated maps are created using several satellite imagery and mapping resources. The 2D maps service starts with a high-quality site plan to fully illustrate a 2D map. The site plan includes key pieces of information and photographs or renderings of buildings that will be included in the map.

Meanwhile, an agreement was signed between RTA and Dubai Municipality for the development of a comprehensive, unified and updated base map of Dubai. The detailed replica of Dubai will include details of its landmark in 2D and 3D. The map will help Dubai in planning and developing the emirate.

The comprehensive geospatial data and maps of “Dubai Here” will include all its assets, landmarks and facilities from the master plans to the interior details of buildings. Also covered are landmarks like roads, trees, bridges, green spaces, utility lines and residential units. The geospatial map of the emirate can be accessed through the electronic system that was launched by Dubai’s Municipality’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Centre.

“Dubai Here” can be easily accessed on the web browser or smart device. Maps will be displayed from a comprehensive geospatial database where all parties are allowed to contribute to or update. There is access to details of housing units, service units and network including information on economic activities, the environment, population and heath.

According to Dawoud Al Hajri, director general of Dubai Municipality, geospatial data and maps are important tools that can be used for decision-making. “GeoDubai” was also launched by the GIS Centre to provide access to the comprehensive and unified base map.

In order to have a map that can be used as an effective tool for planning, designing and managing development projects, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) also signed an agreement with Dubai Municipality for the development of a unified, updated and comprehensive base map of Dubai.

Before 2D maps service can create an illustrated 2D map of a certain place, the client must provide a long-term plan or estimate of their graphic needs including preferred layers, colors and groups. The design and format of the end product will depend on the materials that have been provided by client.

Are CCTVs Effective In Preventing Crime?

Have you ever experienced being accused of assault or battery? The crimes are not the same but the accused faces harsh penalties if prosecuted and convicted according to the full extent of the laws. The best action that the accused can undertake is to hire an experienced assault lawyer to fight the criminal charges.

When a fatal shooting happened outside the BareFax club last April, people by the Byward Market started to seriously consider the need for modern closed circuit television cameras or CCTVs. A month a ago, Mayor Jim Watson wrote to Steve Kanellakos, the city manager to suggest a 3-year pilot for cameras in areas with high criminal activity and pedestrian visibility.

Watson strongly believes that surveillance cameras are very important in the Market after the 2 shooting incidents that resulted into deaths in the tourist area. The surveillance cameras will be mounted in a network around the Market with technology that is more advanced than the traditional convenience store cameras that have grainy images.

Modern CCTV’s when linked together can follow a person or car down the street or block after block. They can send instant alarms once a gunshot has been detected. The advanced technology in the CCTVs includes computer vision technology that can automatically pick out visible images of concern like firearms, fugitive vehicles and repeated actions of a person hitting a window.

The highly advanced surveillance cameras are very expensive but Ontario Premier Doug Ford promised $3 million to the city of Toronto. However, there is a question on the effectiveness of the cameras. In Britain, urban areas are flooded by an estimated amount of 4 million cameras since the 90’s or one camera for every 16 persons. Years of study reveal that the cameras work in some ways but fail in others. They can prevent crime particularly in car parks and garages,

Surveillance cameras cannot stop people from committing assault. However, the images provided by the CCTVs will help the assault lawyer in determining whether there was threat of harm on another person. Fortunately, there are ways to fight assault charges and gain a favorable legal outcome.

Kenya And Thailand Sign MOU Over Universal Health Care

Kenya and Thailand have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), with the goal of studying the steps needed to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC), covering discussions with many a medical health insurance, capacity building, health technology assessment, and health financing., capacity building, health technology assessment, and health financing.

The signing was handled by the Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki, representing the Kenyan government. For Thailand, Minister of Public Health, Professor Emeritus PiyasakolSakolsatayadorn, acted as the representative at the signing ceremony, held at a hotel in Nairobi, March 21.

Kariuki spoke at the ceremony, saying that there’s a few areas where Kenya can benefit from including Health Technology Assessment (HTA), UHC, as well as capacity building in HR Management, alongside scholarships for short courses, and Master’s Degrees.

She says that Kenya has quite a bit to learn from the Thai kingdom, which was successful in implementing UHC for its citizens.

According to the Cabinet Secretary, the Kenyan government has decided to sign following their visit to Thailand in January in 2019, following a meeting held in Nairobi with the Public Health Minister of Thailand, where both discussed their plans for Thailand to assist Kenya in working towards universal healthcare.

Kariuki noted that there would also be National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) reforms, in order to make medical health insurance in Kenya more responsive and reliable, similar to what Thailand did with the National Health Security Office (NHSO), which has been successfully managing Thai public health for years.

She reports that the pilot phase of the UHC had been undergoing in four counties; Isiolo, Kisumu, Machakos, and Kisumu, and has been getting positive feedback from citizens, who report that there is a reliable availability of medicine and committed healthcare providers.

On the other end, Prof. Sakolsatayadorn stated that the public health success story in Thailand is due to them making sure that medical providers focus on providing quality services, instead of making profits.

He says that, in Thailand, there are teams of medical professionals focused on providing public health services to the rural areas, supported via financial incentives. On top of that, the Professor says that the Kingdom also invested heavily in training manpower in its medical sector, which helped bump up the number of doctors graduating from 1000 to 3000.

Ascot International School With Additional IB Authorisation

Ascot International School, an international primary school in Thailand, has been in operation at Ramkhamhaeng Soi 118 since 1995, and has acquired several accreditations and authorisations, like CIS and IB Diploma Programme, among others.

The school recently announced that it just received more authorisation, the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), making it one of the four schools in the Thai capital to have the authorisation for multiple programmes.

The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme is available to kids in the age range of 3-11 y.o., and different from the traditional methods of classrooms in that its designed students to challenge the ideas presented to them, ask questions, and, of course, extend their skills.

Ascot Headmaster Gary Booth explains that the learning process invariably involves taking risks, and the point of the programme is to create a safe environment for their students to learn, make choices about how they learn and behaviour in order to grow into adaptable and well-rounded students.

Ascot is a PYP school, where teachers act less than instructors and more like guides to students, who don’t just sit passively in their chairs, they’re active and move around the education space, going to the library, collecting data outdoors, or interacting with their teacher. A PYP classroom commonly has students working together in groups as they learn cooperatively, consult learning material, research or just gathering info from other people and their environment.

The IB PYP programme ends in a Year 6 exhibition, where the now-11 year old students working together in order to conduct an in-dept inquiry into issues and problems that afflict the real world. This activity is aimed at having the students use the transdisciplinary skills that they pick up over the programme’s duration in order to present their inquiry to the school, in any method that they deem fit.

Currently, the international primary school in Thailand accepts students from 18 months up to 18 years of age, allowing them to complete secondary education in familiar environs and avoid the problem of having to readjust to a new learning environment. Additionally, this also lets Ascot keep an eye on the students’ development, letting the school meet their needs.
