How To Alleviate The Discomfort Caused By Dental Braces

It has become relatively common for many adults to visit the Harrisburg orthodontist because they want their teeth straightened. It is very likely that the dental issue was already apparent during childhood but due to unavoidable circumstances, the child was not able to get braces. Thanks to technology; there are now braces for adults that are less noticeable than the metal braces used years ago.

According to Harvard University Health, braces are used in orthodontics to put constant pressure on the teeth. The root simultaneously puts pressure against the underlying alveolar bone so that a portion of the bone that is next to the root will be forced to dissolve. This will allow the tooth to incrementally move into the desired position. After a tooth has migrated, new bone will replace the spot that the tooth vacated.

Initially, patients that were fitted with braces experience discomfort and soreness. The brackets and wires of the braces may rub on the gums or irritate other parts of the mouth. To check for comfort, use the finger or tongue to check the areas that are poking the cheeks and rubbing on the gums. Make sure to tell the orthodontist so wires can be clipped very short.

The mouth will gradually get used to the braces and the patient will no longer experience sore spots. Investing in orthodontic wax can cover the brackets and wires to lessen discomfort and irritation. Orthodontic wax is a soft and harmless gum protector that can be used by both children and adults. If the wire or bracket breaks or becomes dislodged, orthodontic wax can be applied on the gums while waiting for the next appointment with the orthodontist.

The Harrisburg orthodontist may prescribe over-the-counter pain relief products that can alleviate soreness until the mouth adjusts to the braces. The orthodontist is also likely to suggest eating soft foods like smoothies, soups, stew, mashed potato and yogurt that won’t get caught on the braces. Eating certain foods can make the patient more uncomfortable with the braces.

Proper dental hygiene is very important because braces can create crevices and spots where bacteria can thrive. Keeping the teeth clean through regular brushing and flossing will prevent painful cavities.

The crucial area in the titanium implant is located at the junction of the bone and oral cavity. According to the scientists at Pune, titanium surface that has been deposited with silver can inhibit the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans.

The nano-silver coating makes sure that there is controlled release of silver for 22 days to maintain long term bacterial activity. Human gingival fibroblast cells which are the most abundant cells found in the connective tissues usually proliferate the vicinity of the nano-silver coated abutments but the coating prevents initial microbial adhesion.
